Paper on Statement Evaluation in German Easy Language

GermEval Project

In collaboration with a team from the University of Düsseldorf, we published a paper on automated statement evaluation in German Easy Language at KONVENS 2024.

German Easy Language is a lexically and grammatically simplified version of German that enables people with disabilities or non-native speakers* to access complex texts. Despite its mandatory use in official documents, there's little technology to support its writing.

Since German Easy Language follows a very specific set of rules, texts are usually reviewed by specially trained annotators is time consuming and costly. Our paper presents a solution for automatically analysing and locating statements in German Easy Language, allowing writers to streamline and speed up their writing process.
